Remembrance Sunday Parade & Service
10.30 am to 11.30 amThe Mayor of Southend-on-Sea City Council hopes that as many people as possible will generously demonstrate their support in order that this Service of Remembrance, and the observance of the two minutes of silence, may be worthy of our City.
10:30 to 11:00 – Parade from Prittlewell Square to the Cenotaph for a Service of Remembrance.
11:00 – The start and end of the Two minutes silence will be marked by the firing of a Royal Artillery Gun courtesy of the ceremonial gun team of the Shoeburyness and South Essex Branch Royal Artillery Association Est. 1929.
The Worshipful The Mayor, Cllr Ron Woodley will lead the laying of wreaths on the Cenotaph.
A Cross of Remembrance will be laid on behalf of War Widows, alongside other wreaths which will be laid by the emergency services and representatives of the faith communities.
The Bishop of Bradwell, The Rt Revd Adam Atkinson will lead the service.
Throughout the ceremony wreaths will be laid by veteran’s organisations.
During the final Hymn of the service anyone wishing to lay a wreath will have the opportunity to do so.
11:30 – At the conclusion of the service the National Anthem will be played. The parade will then reform and the Mayoral party will proceed to the saluting dais between the Cenotaph and Prittlewell Square.
The salute, this year, will be taken by Deputy Lieutenant-Mr Tim Gocher OBE DL, High Sheriff of Essex-Mr David Hurst DL and the Mayor-Cllr Ron Woodley.
Hymns and other musical contributions during the service will be performed by the Southend Citadel Band of the Salvation Army.
