Free Festive Parking
Free parking across the City returns this festive season.
All council managed car parks will be free every Sunday in December.
Southend-on-Sea City Council is pleased to announce the return of free Sunday parking in all council-managed car parks across the city this December, encouraging residents and visitors to shop locally and support the local economy this festive season.
Starting on Sunday 1 December, free parking will be available every Sunday throughout December, up to and including Sunday 29 December. With five Sundays this December, the council’s offer aims to give a welcome boost to local businesses, enticing more shoppers to Southend’s diverse range of shops, eateries, and services.
This offer applies to council-run off-street car parks only and does not include on-street parking bays. Details of council car parks are available on the council’s website.
This year, the campaign coincides with Small Business Saturday on 7 December, a national initiative that highlights the importance of shopping locally and supporting small businesses. With our free Sunday parking offer, we’re making it even easier for everyone to continue supporting local traders throughout the entire month of December.
Cllr Daniel Cowan, leader of Southend-on-Sea City Council, said: “The Christmas period is vital for small businesses, and we’re encouraging people to get offline and use local shops with free festive parking on Sundays in December for both residents and visitors to Southend.
“Shopping local isn’t just for Christmas; it’s for every season. When you buy local, you’re helping to create jobs, grow the economy, and keep Southend thriving. For those planning regular visits, the Southend Pass makes parking convenient year-round, and our Tradesperson Permit supports essential services.
“As we approach the festive period, I encourage everyone to explore the It’s Local Southend directory for holiday gifts and services, especially on Small Business Saturday, and to keep supporting local businesses year-round. Together, we can make a positive impact on our city.”

Southend Pass and Tradesperson Permit
In addition to free Sunday parking, residents and frequent visitors can benefit from the Southend Pass, which provides affordable parking for up to 13 hours a day, including evenings, for just 34p per day.
For added parking flexibility, tradespersons offering essential services like plumbing, electrical work, and decorating can apply for the Tradesperson Permit, allowing convenient parking access in residential permit bays, council car parks, and on-street pay zones throughout the city during the working week.
