Spring Space Day

Southend Planetarium
11.00 am to 5.00 pm

Join our intrepid, intergalactic team this Easter holidays for a day of planetarium shows and meteorite handling sessions at Southend Central Museum and Planetarium.

11am & 12pm ‘Journey into Space’ –

Blast off in our planetarium rocket ship in ‘Journey into Space’, a show specially curated for younger children. A perfect way for all aspiring astronauts and astronomers to begin their exploration of the universe.

This show lasts approximately 50 minutes. This show is suitable for ages 3+.

11:30am ‘Gentle Stars’ SEND show –

An SEND friendly adaptation of our standard ‘Night Sky’ show, held in the Beecroft Art Gallery lecture theatre.

This show is an adaptation of the regular ‘Night Sky’ show. The lecture theatre has step free, ground level access. There is space for up to 7 wheelchairs. The room is kept at a low but not no light level, and music will be playing gently in the background as you explore the wonders of space with our planetarium presenters.

No need to worry about noise or movement, the lecture theatre is a safe, friendly environment with plenty of space to move about during the show for those who need to, and there are easily accessible doors if anyone may need to take a break.

The show lasts approximately 45 minutes. This show is suitable for ages 7+.

1:30pm & 2:30pm ‘Zodiac: Stories and Stars’ –

A brand new show exploring the stories and stars of the zodiac.

For thousands of years, people have gazed at the stars and found meaning in the patterns above them. This immersive show reveals the fascinating origins of the zodiac- beginning in ancient Babylon, where early astronomers first mapped the celestial path of the sun. Then, travel across an entire year of the night sky as we guide you through all twelve zodiac constellations. This show blends astronomy, history, and mythology to reveal how ancient cultures interpreted the heavens, and how you can find these same celestial patterns above you each night.

The show lasts approximately 50 minutes. This show is suitable for ages 7+.

3:30pm ‘Spring Skies’ –

Join our intrepid, intergalactic team in Southend Museum’s Planetarium on a mission to uncover the mysteries of the night sky above us this Easter, as part of the museum’s Spring Space Day.

The show lasts approximately 50 minutes. This show is suitable for ages 7+.

Time slots throughout the day ‘Meet the Meteorites’ –

Get hands on and reach for the stars in one of these interactive sessions with real space materials, and analyse like an astronaut to uncover their mysterious galactic past.

The session lasts approximately 25 minutes. This session is suitable for ages 5+.
